Every year, fans look forward to Nicki Minaj’s Met Gala performance, but the singer has decided to skip the event in 2023.
The Super Freaky Girl singer is busy working on her music and business these days. She recently unveiled her new record label Heavy On It and also released a new song Red Ruby Da Sleeze.
While Nicki Minaj has a lot going on these days, her fans, who are popularly known as Barbz, expected she would make an appearance at the 2023 Met Gala.
The gala’s theme this year was meant to honor the late German designer Karl Lagerfeld. Many A-list celebrities attended, including Cardi B, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Anne Hathaway, Jared Leto, and more.
Nicki Minaj addresses 2023 Met Gala absence
While the 40-year-old rapper skipped the Met Gala this year, she did post her tribute for Karl on her Instagram.
The musician posted a series of pictures of her and Karl from their July 2018 Elle cover shoot. The first picture sees the duo standing side by side as they look at the camera. Nicki had her full glam on in the photo. Moreover, she also posted behind the scenes of their project.
While Nicki’s tribute to Karl was heartwarming, she addressed her Met Gala absence in the captions. The rapper pointed at how she’s trending on Twitter despite not making it to the event saying, “I set trends from Queens to Beijing.”
She then says, “I’m not the one who do the imitating” hinting at her not attending the event.
Finally, Nicki revealed that the music video for her and Kim Petras’ song Alone will be out on May 2.
Rapper is trending despite skipping event
The 40-year-old rapper skipped the Met Gala this year and still began trending on Twitter. This only goes to show the strength of her fandom.
One of Nicki’s fan accounts on Twitter posted that the singer was one of the top trending topics despite not attending the gala. The Anaconda singer replied to the fan account’s tweet with a series of hand-over-mouth, kissing faces and heart-hands emojis.
In the early hours of the Met Gala, many of the rapper’s fans were keen to see what she would wear to the event this year. When Nicki hadn’t showed up hours after it started, some speculated that she was simply fashionably late.
However, finally, Nicki’s fans made light out of her decision to skip the event.

Which rappers attended the gala this year?
Many A-listers from the rap fraternity showed up to the Met this year. A$AP Rocky graced the red carpet with Rihanna.
Doja Cat walked in dressed up as Karl’s cat Choupette.
Other rappers in attendance were Yung Miami, Jack Harlow, Lil Nas X, Diddy, Dr Dre and Skepta.
